If you have a love of reading and aren’t yet indoctrinated into the world of #bookstagram, you’re missing out! I was introduced to this community earlier this year, and to say they’ve been a safe haven and a source of joy and inspiration during the pandemic is an understatement.
So, I want to share this magical world with all of you! Even just scanning the #bookstagram hashtag is sure to give you warm fuzzies and brighten your day, but I want to introduce you to some of my very favorite follows.
My first pick was an easy one: @hannah_reads_. Hannah was one of the first #bookstagram accounts I came across, and we quickly connected over college athletics. As many of you know, I’m a sports business reporter in my other life, and Hannah works in college athletics. Even though the college athletics world is small, I hadn’t run into Hannah until #bookstagram. She is such a lovely and genuine soul, and I know her bookish feed will warm your heart just like it has mine!

I asked Hannah a few questions so we can get to know her better…
What’s your favorite genre to read? Historical fiction by far! I love being transported to another place & time and being able to learn a little bit in the process.
What are you currently reading? I’m currently reading More Than a Woman by Caitlin Moran. I can’t count the number of times I’ve laughed. She’s hilarious & I’m thoroughly enjoying it!
What’s been your favorite read of the year so far? I’m going to give Code Name Helene the slight edge over The Book of Lost Names. Both are WWII historical fiction and so incredibly well done. They each feature badass females and that’s just my favorite thing.
What’s your day job? I am the assistant director of media relations for the Southern Conference, a DI mid-major athletic conference in upstate South Carolina. In short, I do press releases, generate conference statistics, maintain our website, and generally work to promote & celebrate the successes of our student-athletes & member institutions (among so many other things!).
What does #bookstagram mean to you? Honestly, #bookstagram has helped keep me sane this year and I’m so incredibly grateful for this community. I expected to find a place to talk books with other book lovers, which I have, but it’s turned in to so much more. I’ve found people to talk about life with & made friends who genuinely care about me as a person, not just a reader. Though I’ve met very few of my booksta friends in person, I know so many will be friends for life & that’s so rewarding.
